Position Available:  Violent Crime Prevention and Intervention Advocate

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week

Location: 222 South Royal Avenue
(with some work-from-home flexibility)

Phoenix Project ensures freedom from all forms of domestic and sexual violence through education, empowerment, and community.

Position Overview:

The Violent Crime Prevention and Intervention Advocate plays a key role in our community’s coordinated response to violence. This position leads community-based prevention strategies (40%), provides direct support and crisis intervention to victims of violent crime (50%), and assists with grant management and compliance (10%).

Key Responsibilities:

Prevention (40%)

  • Lead evidence-based violence prevention initiatives.
  • Implement and coordinate the Domestic Violence Response Team (DVRT).
  • Provide community education on public safety and firearm-related violence.
  • Plan and run outreach events and public awareness campaigns.
  • Connect individuals at elevated risk for violence with housing, employment, and education supports.

Intervention (50%)

  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, advocacy, and referrals in person and through the 24-hour hotline.
  • Participate in rotating on-call coverage and respond on-scene as needed.
  • Conduct ongoing follow-up and support for survivors.
  • Arrange safe shelter or emergency lodging when required.
  • Screen victims using the Lethality Assessment Protocol (LAP).
  • Oversee LAP coordination with law enforcement.

Grant Management (10%)

  • Assist the Executive Director with grant writing and compliance-related tasks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in victim services or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of domestic violence, sexual assault, and violent crime issues.
  • Commitment to empowerment-based, client-centered practices.
  • Comfort with public speaking and community education.
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and data entry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work independently, manage time, and balance multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience with community organizing or violence-prevention work.
  • Knowledge of social justice issues.
  • Familiarity with nonprofit work and grant management.
